Texas administrative code and university policy require all health professions students to complete a series of three hepatitis B immunizations, or show proof of immunity, before they have contact with patients or with biological fluids/tissue. All School of Health Professions students are strongly encouraged to complete the series before arriving on campus. Students in some School of Health Professions programs must complete the series before the first day of classes (or show proof of immunity) because they have patient contact early in the program. Others must complete the series before the end of the first semester in the program (see the table below). No student is allowed to work in clinical settings without having been immunized or showing proof of immunity.

Students enrolled in the on-line Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Sciences program may be required to complete the immunization series or show proof of immunity if they enroll in a capstone internship involving patient contact.
