Assignments to affiliates for practicum courses is a random process based on availability of positions at the affiliate sites. All students are expected to complete at least one practicum at an affiliate located outside of San Antonio. Refusal to go to an assigned affiliate will result in a loss of the student’s practicum position and delay of graduation. Students who have special needs and request specific considerations for practicum assignments must put the request in writing to the Department Chair. The Chair will take the request to the Committee on Allied Health Studies in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The Committee will approve or disapprove the request.
In the unlikely event there are not enough sites available for the number of students ready to enter practicums, assignments will be made in the following priority:
Students who fail a practicum may not take priority in practicum assignments over students who are in good standing. Students who fail a practicum and cannot be accommodated for remediation before completion of their didactic courses, may repeat the practicum within the first seven weeks of the fall or spring semester following completion of didactic courses.
